Poons, Somerset House, London

It was a late evening invite to have a chill Friday lunch the next day. We decided on Poons at Somerset House – they have an express set lunch menu with wonton noodles as one of the choices. It is one of my top favourite comfort food. The location was also an convenient for both Elspeth and myself.

The setting of Somerset House is lovely. It added a certain charm in having Chinese food in an historical Georgian building.
We added lotus chips/crisps and Zha Jiang aubergine to our express meun meal. Together (my PA was also with us), we had Vegetable San Choy Bao, Magic Soup, Crudites, wonton noodles, and congee accompanied by chrysanthenum tea.
We loved the lotus chips/ crisps.Elspeth is gluten intolerant and they changed the whipped furu ( with the crudites) for a sesame dressing.
I m a tad fussy about my wonton noodles. I thought it was good but the noodles were not as ‘springy’as I would have liked?

There is an accessible loo but it’s down a long corridor and you need the receptionist to open a door to access it.
