Sai Kei is a popular Chinese restaurant in North Greenwich. It is based in the Holiday Inn Express with car parking spaces. Before 5pm it serves a wide selection of dimsum but then, you cannot reserve a table. Some days, like on Sundays, the queue can go beyond the restaurant entrance.
This particular evening, I went with some friends from Hong Kong and among us, we were 3 wheelchair users: 2 power wheelchairs and one self propelling, a total of 7 of us . The biggish round tables accommodated us without difficulty and the lazy Susan in the middle of the table moved the dishes within our reach. Tea was served immediately. Waiters were attentive – how much of that was a result of us addressing them in Cantonese? We do not know.
As is Chinese custom, we ordered a number of dishes to eat communally with individual bowls of rice. This way, we get to share and taste everything. It also makes it affordable (in my opinion). My favourite dishes from that restaurant are the fresh green vegetables- like Chinese broccoli or kailan. They always arrive glistening green with just the right bite to them. The tofu dishes are also good. We had crispy belly pork and lemon chicken. The crispy belly pork was excellent and one of the friends from Hong Kong and her German boyfriend love the lemon chicken.
