Wong Kei, Chinatown, London

I was asked for a recommendation for an accessible restaurant in Chinatown (London). We are now in the month of March where its not warm enough to eat outside yet.  I say this because many restaurants in Chinatown had set out tables outside since Covid, making them ‘accessible’ if you’re okay to eat alfresco

It was Mothering Sunday and my daughter took me out early on the Saturday. I felt like having wonton noodles so I suggested going to Wong Kei. Wong Kei is a legend but I go there because the food is consistently good, the prices are reasonable but most of all, the restaurant is accessible and I ve received unfailing good service there. I’m not saying that the waiters are super friendly but they are quick and never failed to get me  a good space.

There were 4 of us (including 2 PAs), we had baked crab with ginger and spring onion sauce, wonton soup noodles and a stuffed vegetables on rice. On reflection, maybe I should have chosen black bean sauce for the crab instead. The crab was good, rich in roe. The others were happy with their choices.

Inspite of it being a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was not too busy. It is one I would go with wheelchair user friends because it does have that space. It has a canteen like ambiance, so not the place for a romantic meal. And an important notice, they do not take reservations and only cash payments.
