I love parathas (roti paratha/canai) from home in Malaysia, we have it for breakfast with a dhall or fish curry. I was thrilled to see this small new eatery opposite the Pool Meadow bus station with a board advertising paratha wraps as snacks among others such as samosas and pakoras, the Indian Village.
I was early, it was barely lunchtime when I asked for a lamb curry with a plain paratha. Even though I was hungry I wasn’t overly impressed by the lamb curry. It wasn’t spicy – I don’t mean it wasn’t hot enough, it just wasn’t flavorful. But the paratha was very good. The server, a very friendly lady who was happy to explain things to me, told that the rotis were made in house. They were made with wholemeal flour – I found out that in North India they make it with wholemeal. Much healthier!
They also serve lassis, stuffed parathas start at Β£1.50 and apparently 10% discount for students, bus/taxi drivers and pensioners for orders over Β£5
Indian Village is at 3B Fairfax Street, level entry with accessible loo.
