Its been some time since I ‘ve been to the China Express. Somehow Chinese cuisine has become more and more like cuisine from mainland China, lots more Szechwanese hot spicy food, with chillies and Szechwan pepper. People I asked said it was due to the influx of Chinese students. It used to be that that Chinese restaurant food meant Cantonese cuisine with the sweet and sour and dim sum. Good for those who like spicy Chinese food! More choice. Those restaurants well established are still there of course but I feel the waiters/waitresses in those well established seem to train their staff better to be attentive and helpful.
There are also 2 menus at China Express – I opted for the a la carte menu not the buffet menu.
I am not saying that China Express folk are not attentive but I dont think their staff knows how to be flexible. My friend wanted duck but they did not have duck really on the menu so I asked if the chef could replace the chicken with duck in one of the dishes – I know it was possible but in this case the waitress did not agree and Karen picked crispy duck instead. I think she was disappointed because it came out a bit dry but she got lots of pancakes.
I went for my green beans choice and I wasnt disappointed. It had the crunchiness and was flavorsome due to the Szechwan peppers and finely minced pork. I love beans anyway but this is fried and that gives a crispy texture.
